North to Alaska

Fly into Alaskas’ International Airport and from there, head south along the picturesque Kenai Peninsula towards Homer and Seward, two meccas for offshore fishing. During the drive, you’ll have the opportunity to view Beluga whales, Dall Sheep, moose and other land based animals.

Side excursions can include panning for gold, glacial views, hiking trails, and local favorites as they pertain to dining or gift shops. Take a ride along the Alaskan Railroad to Spencer Glacier and hike around the beautiful trails where, season dependent, blueberries, raspberries and watermelon berries grow in abundance. Once in Seward/Homer, fishing really isn’t an option to pass up. 6-pak or party boats available for your seafood favorites and taking home the prize is 100% on the itinerary. While fishing, more wildlife viewing opportunities come your way with chances of humpback whales, orcas and even bald eagles swooping in for a trophy fish on their dining menu.

If fishing isn’t your thing, no biggie! Homer, Seward and all the towns along the way, offer amazing views, half-day or full-day adventures, sightseeing and shopping. Excursions can include white water rafting in the beautiful town of Hope, hiking peaks or trails (beginner-expert), flight seeing tours by bush plane and as always the chance to see some amazing Alaskan wildlife. Check out scenic bike paths for experienced and novice riders or quad trails taking you deeper into the back country than on more conventional wheels.

From your arrival, dependent upon the amount of vacation days you have stored up, you have the option to head north from Anchorage, towards Denali National Park, home of North America’s tallest peak, Mount McKinley. Recreational vehicles are not permitted on the roads within the park but park bus tours are available along with other white water rafting opportunities and more breathtaking sites like the infamous Igloo Hotel. A highlight of mine are some of the most scenic backroads, for the most part having gone untouched by tourism, and offering some of the most wild experiences from shed hunting, wildlife to include caribou, berry picking and gorgeous campsites. By far some of my most favorite pastime has been spent on these back roads.

The sky is the limit as it pertains to your dream vacation! Totally customizable and 100% a vacation destination, Alaskas’ wild backcountry opens up opportunities to fulfill all your desires. Whether it’s viewing the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) with a hot cup of coco, dog sledding across a vast, wide open glacier, snow machining into frozen ice caves, ice climbing a frozen waterfall or even for those avid fisherman that never seem to get enough of the sport; ice fishing! Alaska offers ample opportunities with even still breathtaking sights!
